The Cupcake Series
There are 600 million adolescent girls living in poverty in the developing world. Over the next decade, another 100 million girls will become child brides. 70 percent of the children out of school are girls. Only 17% of the seats in Congress are held by women.
Every day 6,000 girls undergo female circumcision. An estimated 50,000 women and children are trafficked into the USA annually for sexual exploitation or forced labor. 75 percent of adolescents with AIDS are female Somewhere in America a woman is battered, usually by her intimate partner, every 15 seconds. Violence causes more deaths and disability amongst women ages 15-44 than war, cancer, malaria and traffic accidents. Women do two-thirds of the world’s work, receive 10 percent of the world’s income and own 1 percent of the means of production. $40 billion a year is spent on beauty products in America. $30 billion would provide a year of primary education for every child on earth.
These are the things that keep me up at night. Doodling and thinking that if women are the ones to save the world...
first we need to save ourselves.
